Agricultural Operations

Arms of Love has
purchased about six acres of land for farming adjacent to
the Arms of Love Children's Home in Lourdes. This farm
produces some of the food that is used at the Children's
Home, and also generates a modest amount of income for the
ministry.
Moreover, since the farm is being developed adjacent to the
Children's Home, the children are involved in caring for the
animals and the crops. Working on the farm for a few hours
on Saturdays teaches the children a good work ethic as well
as useful agrarian skills.
The farm is
currently raising tilapia (according to tradition, the same
fish Jesus used to feed the 5,000), goats (to generate
goat's milk), Sasso chickens (to be sold for meat), laying
chickens (to produce eggs for resale), Barbados sheep (to be
sold for meat) and mango trees. We are continuing to expand
and develop the farm over time, and anticipate turning our
first profit on the farm in 2004.
Pictured at the
top of this page is one of five fish ponds planned for the
property. Pictured below are pictures of additional fish
ponds and the completed Sasso chicken house.
