Frequently Asked Questions I Correspondence

Our Children

Our children come from a range of backgrounds, but at the time we receive them, they all share one thing in common: they have been separated from their parents and have no long-term living situation. Many of the children spent years living and sleeping on the streets, and most suffered significant physical or sexual abuse. Some had to beg or steal just to survive; some were victims of child prostitution; and many were victims of rape or incest.

Our vision is to completely restore the lives of these children. This is why we call our projects "children's homes" and not "orphanages." Arms of Love provides its children with basic necessities, such as food, clothing and shelter, but this is only the beginning. Changing the lives of these children means providing a loving, family environment where the children experience genuine love and significant relationships; educational opportunities and vocational training that will enable the children to become gainfully employed and pursue their dreams; professional counseling and individualized care that will help the children heal from their past traumas; and recreational opportunities that will help restore their childhood to them. But most of all, we believe that only the love of Christ and His touch can forever heal their wounds and restore their capacity to love again, to trust again, and to have hope again for the future.

A Special Kind of Sponsorship

For as little as $35/month, you can help us rescue a child from the streets and give that child a home. Your donations will be applied toward the full-time care of your child, including three meals each day, clothing, medical care, education, recreation, field trips, staff salaries, and all other expenses related to the care of that child.

The Arms of Love child sponsorship program is very unique. Most sponsorship programs provide "supplemental care" for children. To qualify for such a program, the children must already have a home and someone who cares for them, usually a parent. Through the sponsorship program, the children may receive needed assistance in the way of meals, clothing, or school supplies. Other programs help improve living conditions within an entire community, which benefits all of the children living in that community. These kinds of programs can be very valuable in assisting children-at-risk, but they do not operate as the primary or exclusive source of the children's support.

The child you sponsor through Arms of Love is a child who is in our full time legal custody, who lost his family through a combination of death, abandonment, and abuse. Your sponsorship helps us provide the house that your child is living in; the houseparents and other staff who care for your child; three good, varied, well-balanced meals every day; clothing; a good education, usually at a private Christian school; vocational training; medical and dental care; birthday parties; recreational opportunities; and everything else your child needs to live a well-rounded, fulfilling life. A program providing this level of care costs us about $5,000 per month to care for 25 children with the assistance of 10-12 full time staff.

We have therefore designed our program to accommodate both full sponsorships and team sponsorships. We have currently set the amount of a full sponsorship at $210/month. The amount of the full sponsorship is determined by taking the actual monthly budget of the children's homes and dividing it by the number of children being cared for. Team sponsorships may be any amount of the donor's choosing, but we recommend a minimum sponsorship of $35/month, which is 1/6 of a full sponsorship. Similarly, $70/month provides 1/3 of a child's full-time care, and $105/month provides for one-half of a child's care. As a team sponsor, you are not the only person sponsoring your child, but through your sponsorship you are having a significant impact by helping us provide everything your child has in life.

If you would like to sponsor a child today, please go to our Online Giving and Child Sponsorship page and fill out the on-line form. We will then mail you an introductory package and commence your sponsorship.

About Your Sponsorship

When you sponsor a child you will receive:

  • a picture of the child
  • information concerning the child's background,
  • annual updates concerning the child's progress
  • the opportunity to correspond with the child and visit the child, if you are traveling in the host country.

Your sponsorship means more than providing financial support. It is an opportunity to become a part of your child's life - helping him heal from the past, becoming a part of his present, and giving him a future, both now and in eternity.

Arms of Love is a section 501(c)(3) public charity. All donations to Arms of Love are fully tax deductible.
