About Us

Nicaragua

The Arms of Love Children’s Home in Nicaragua was our first ministry location.  Launched in April 2000, our original homes were located in Managua, but today our children live on a beautiful 20-acre campus in the nearby town of Jinotepe.

Our facilities in Nicaragua were designed with one thing in mind: fostering a strong sense of community.  Our three homes are located in close proximity with one another and are each home to 10-12 children – one for younger boys and girls, one for the older girls, and one for the older boys.  The homes include living space for the resident houseparents and other multi-purpose rooms, such as a library, computer lab, or a sewing room.  A short-term team center with central cooking facilities can accommodate up to 50 visitors at once and also serves as a common meeting place for the children and staff.  In the center of the community are a children’s playground and a basketball/soccer court for recreation.

Jinotepe is a medium-sized town about an hour south of Managua and is conveniently located less than an hour from the beach, Granada, and other sites.  Our children currently attend the Nehemias School, a Christian private school in Jinotepe, which was started by German missionaries and maintains very high academic standards.  Many of the children also take extracurricular courses, such as English classes, while teachers on our own staff help tutor the children to strengthen their performance in school.  The children fellowship at a local church in Jinotepe called La Rocha, but we also maintain a close relationship with La Vina Comunidad Cristiana Norte in Managua (a church affiliated with the Vineyard Christian Fellowship).

One of the special attributes of our campus in Jinotepe is that it encompasses old-grown tropical rainforest.  Arms of Love is preserving most of the 20-acre property as a natural park, with literally miles of hiking trails and countless fruit trees and lush vegetation, for the enjoyment of the children and visiting ministry teams. The children and staff are also cultivating a wide range of fruits and vegetables throughout the property.  We believe that this environment offers the children an optimal combination of growing up in a beautiful, natural setting while still being integrated into a thriving local community with excellent educational and recreational opportunities.

Our long-term vision includes construction of a fourth home in Jinotepe, at which time the campus will be able to care for up to 50 children. Additionally, we have college students who live off-campus and are supported through our Independent Living Program.
