Brazil Children's Home Nears Completion

After a long period of preparation and construction, the first Arms of Love Children's Home in Brazil was nearing completion in August 2007 and will be ready to begin receiving children by the beginning of 2008. In recent months, the construction workers continued to make progress inside of the house, completing wall tiles and counter tops and installing windows and doors throughout. The house is scheduled to be painted by a team from the Grove City Vineyard in October.
We are also happy to announce that we have found the first houseparent couple to serve in the children's home. Carlos and Edileuda are members of the local church affiliated with the home, PAZ Castanhal, and come with the strong recommendation of their pastors. Emotionally and spiritually strong and mature, Carlos and Edileuda have one child of their own and feel a strong passion for the work of Arms of Love. We are looking forward to welcoming Carlos and Edileuda into the Arms of Love family!
A few remaining items still remain to be funded before the home can become fully operational. In particular, we need financial partners to help construct a water tower and connect all the utilities, which will cost $5,300. We also need to fill the house with bunk beds, tables, chairs, a sofa, appliances, pots and pans, a washing machine, and everything else that will be needed to transform the building into a real home for the children. Please consider a special gift to help us with these final items!
A team from New York is also coming down in October to build a multi-purpose building on the project site, which will be a great place for birthday parties and worship services. The facility will also be used for giving the children lessons in art, dance and music. The volunteer team is also employing a new method of construction, which could greatly reduce the construction time of future facilities.
Lastly, Scott and Beck Joellenbeck, who direct the Arms of Love home in Brazil, will be visiting the United States between Thanksgiving and January 8. During that time, if there is an opportunity for them to share with your church, missions committee, or other group, please let us know.
